B-KOM

Brighton Kick-Off Mentoring Program is a peer-to-peer program that helps transition new freshmen into our high school. Junior and senior students are assigned several incoming 9th graders to mentor throughout their first year at BHS.

Mentors participate in a whole day of training in preparation for their responsibilities to freshmen in the upcoming year. Just prior to the actual start of the school year for all students, the freshmen and their mentors spend a day together getting acquainted with each other and with BHS.

The main focus of this Kick-Off Day is on three L’s – LOCKERS, LUNCH, and LOST. Mentors teach new freshmen how to open their LOCKERS, how to manage LUNCH in the cafeteria, and how to avoid getting LOST in such a large school. They also do a variety of fun activities to foster new friendships and a feeling of safety at BHS.

A B-KOM Board of 10-11 student mentors directs the program, under the supervision of administrators. The Board meets regularly to organize the entire process, create curriculum, address concerns, prepare presentations, and prepare.

Once the new school year is under way, separate B-KOM sessions are held throughout first semester to continue the transitioning process of freshmen to BHS. For more information, please call 810-299-4104.
